Mr. Thomas Behrens

CHANGE DRIVES GROWTH

For more than 25 years, Thomas Behrens has had the privilege of working at Demant Group, something he could not have imagined as a young engineer at the time. Now he is Vice President of Hearing Aids and Audiology. Earline had an inspiring conversation with him during EUHA.

“I share the company’s passion for helping people with hearing loss. Unfortunately, you can’t remove a permanent disability, but you can make a real difference. The ownership structure makes Demant unique. Because we are owned by a foundation, we can work with a long-term vision. We dare to take risks, invest in fundamental research and develop innovations that sometimes take years to mature. But when they succeed, they improve lives in a profound way”.

Our BrainHearing™ philosophy is no longer just a technology, it is a way of thinking. I am one of the driving forces behind its development. We are researching how the brain processes sound so that we can design hearing aids that support natural listening and communication. It’s not just about speech intelligibility, but also about the brain’s ability to remember, respond and participate in real conversations. By that I mean the natural “taking turns” that makes communication human”.

“Communication is also key within our Demant Group. We are a large global corporation and work as a network based on shared understanding. We want to ensure that every team and every colleague is looking in the same direction and understands what we want to achieve together. For me, change is more than a business necessity; it is personal growth. Learning, adapting and staying curious keeps you sharp in your work and connected to the world around you. When you bring talented people together and let their qualities reinforce each other, real innovation happens. We know where we are heading with the Demant Group in the coming years, but technology such as AI is developing so rapidly that in five years’ time it will probably be further ahead than we can imagine today. What matters is that we continue to improve: for better hearing care, today and in the future”.
